Getting started

Rally is a study app for college students. Start a focus timer, earn Focus Points as you study, climb your school and global leaderboards, study together in group sessions, and keep a daily streak going. Create a free account with your email, pick your school, and press start.

Frequently asked questions

How do I create an account?

Open the app, follow the onboarding, and sign up with your email address and a password. We'll email you a six-digit verification code. Enter it on the verification screen in Rally to finish signup. If you leave before finishing, reopen Rally to continue your pending signup. You can also try the app as a guest without an account (guest sessions are temporary and reset daily).

I didn't get my verification or reset code.

Check that the email address shown in Rally is correct and that you're checking that inbox. Look in Junk, Spam, and other filtered folders. Delivery can take a few minutes. When the resend countdown finishes, you can request another code; use the newest one. Codes expire after one hour.

If it still does not arrive, email support@rallystudy.app with your Rally username, the affected email address, and approximately when you requested the code. Never send us your password or verification code.

How do I reset my password?

On the sign-in screen, tap Forgot password?, enter your account email, and tap Send reset code. Enter the six-digit code in Rally, then choose and confirm a new password. Use the newest code and check Junk or Spam if the email is missing. Update Rally if your installed version still uses the older recovery-link flow.

What is Rally Pro, and how do I subscribe?

Rally Pro is an optional subscription that multiplies the Focus Points you earn and unlocks premium themes, study analytics, and charity donations. Pro analytics include weekly study planning, task-duration estimates, and study-log export. Pro also includes custom timer photo backgrounds. Estimates are a starting point, not a deadline or a guarantee of academic results. You can subscribe from the Pro screen inside the app. Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase, and the subscription renews automatically unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.

How do I restore a purchase I already made?

If you reinstalled the app or switched devices, sign in to your original Rally account, open the Rally Pro screen, and tap Restore. Use the Apple ID you purchased with. Restore checks your Pro entitlement; it does not refill spent Focus Points. Purchased Focus Points are credited to your Rally account. If a purchase or balance is missing, contact support with the purchase date and Apple transaction details, but never your password or full payment details.

How do I manage or cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed through Apple, not inside Rally. On your iPhone, go to Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions → Rally, or open the App Store, tap your profile photo, and choose Subscriptions. From there you can change plan or cancel. Rally Pro also has a "Manage or cancel subscription" button that links to this Apple screen directly. Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep Pro until the current period ends.

What happens to my themes when Pro ends?

Pro-only themes and custom timer backgrounds require an active Pro entitlement. When that entitlement ends, Rally returns to an available theme. Separately purchased themes remain owned. Cancelling auto-renewal does not end a paid subscription before its current period expires.

Why are parts of Analytics blurred?

Free accounts can see their Rally Score and previews of Pro features. Detailed analytics, score guidance, weekly planning, and study-log export require Pro. A paid export feature does not limit your applicable privacy rights; contact support if you need to make a personal-data request.

What are Focus Points?

Focus Points are Rally's in-app reward for studying. You earn them automatically as your timer runs, at a higher rate with Pro and in group sessions. You can use points for eligible cosmetics and charity donations. Study-time rankings are based on recorded study time, not purchased points. You can optionally buy Focus Point bundles as a one-time in-app purchase.

Why does Rally ask for my location, and can I say no?

Location helps verify that you are near a supported campus study building. It is optional: core timer and task features work without it. You can use Home or Somewhere else instead of a verified campus spot. Those labels are not shown on the campus map and do not require your home address.

To enable the feature, open Profile → Settings → Location public, then open the Timer's location selector and tap Check my location. Allow While Using the App and enable Precise Location in iOS. Rally does not need Always permission.

Location public starts off for accounts created after the opt-in default was introduced on September 9, 2026. Existing accounts keep their saved settings. Both Location public and Timer public must be on for campus-map visibility. The Friends filter changes what you see, not who can see your shared place.

Does Rally check my location automatically or in the background?

Once the feature is enabled and permission is granted, Rally begins preparing your location when you enter the app and checks approximately every 20 seconds while the app is open and your timer is idle. It does not monitor background geofences or track your movements while the app is closed.

Start does not wait for a fresh GPS check. If a verified spot is ready, Rally can use it; otherwise it uses your remembered Home or Somewhere else choice. Choose that fallback once when asked. At a building with floors, you still need to select the floor yourself before starting.

A verified place records where the session started. Rally does not continuously check whether you remain there while your timer runs, so another person's displayed study place is not a guarantee of their current physical position.

Why are campus locations greyed out?

You may be outside the supported area, location permission or sharing may be off, GPS accuracy may be insufficient, or verification may not yet be enabled for that campus. Indoor GPS can be unreliable. Verification is currently enabled at seven NYU study sites; other campuses offer map browsing and directions but do not yet verify arrival.

If Rally says your location is off, use Open Settings, or go to iPhone Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Rally. Check While Using the App and Precise Location, then return to Rally. You can always continue with Home or Somewhere else without granting location permission.

How do I stop sharing my study place?

Open Profile → Settings and turn Location public off. This stops detection and removes your campus-map presence. Turning Timer public off also hides you from the campus map. Revoking iOS location permission stops future checks, but is not the same as deleting past session-location records. See the Privacy Policy for details.

What does “Demo” mean on a map entry?

Map entries prefixed “Demo” are automated example accounts that demonstrate the feature. They are not students whose physical presence at that location was verified.

My timer or Live Activity showed the wrong time. What should I send support?

Note approximately when it happened and what you did, such as locking the phone, opening a notification, tapping the Live Activity, or returning to the Home screen. Include your Rally username, iPhone model, iOS version, and Rally version if you know them.

After your timer is no longer running, open Profile → Settings → Share study diagnostics and send the report to support@rallystudy.app. The report contains session identifiers and timing information that can be linked to your study records; share it privately with support, not publicly. Avoid deleting or reinstalling the app before exporting, as local diagnostics may be lost.

How do I request a refund?

All purchases are handled by Apple. To request a refund, visit reportaproblem.apple.com and sign in with your Apple ID, or go to Settings → [your name] → Media & Purchases → Purchase History. Refund decisions are made by Apple.

How do I delete my account?

Open Profile → Settings → Delete Account and follow the confirmation steps. Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. Associated personal data is deleted according to our Privacy Policy, including its retention and legal exceptions. Deleting your Rally account does not automatically cancel an Apple subscription; cancel it separately through Apple if you no longer want it.

How do I report a user or block someone?

Every user can report content and block other users from within the app. We review reports of objectionable content and abusive users and typically act within 24 hours by removing the content and ejecting the offending user. If you need to escalate something urgently, email support@rallystudy.app.

How do notifications work?

Rally can send you study reminders and alerts when friends start or finish a study session or send you a request. You can turn notifications on or off any time in the app, or in your device's Settings → Notifications → Rally. If enabled, a study-interruption reminder is scheduled 1.5 seconds after Rally classifies a departure as a violation. Delivery and visibility depend on iOS settings, including Focus and notification permissions, so the reminder is not a guarantee of exact timing.

Is my data private?

You control whether your study activity, location, and class enrollments are visible to others, in the app's privacy settings. We never sell your personal data and we don't carry advertising SDKs. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
